Diana Santos: A short curriculum vitae

Born in Lisbon, 1st March 1962.
- Graduated in electrotechnical engineering and computers at Instituto
Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, in 1985.
Project: A Vocoder LPC (in Portuguese).
- M.Sc. degree ('mestrado') at IST in 1988.
Dissertation: The transfer phase of an English to Portuguese Machine
Translation System (in Portuguese).
- Doctoral degree at IST in 1996.
Dissertation: Tense and aspect in English and Portuguese: A
contrastive semantical study.
Taught several disciplines (Electronics,
Signal Processing, Numerical Analysis, and Computer Science) at IST from 1983 til 1988.
Research fellow, INESC Speech Group, 1985-1988.
Associate scientist with IBM Portugal from 1988 till 1990 (leader of
the IBM-INESC Scientific Group).
Associate professor, responsible for teaching natural
language processing for fourth-grade students of software engineering
at IST, 1993.
Group leader at INESC from 1990 till 1996, in charge of INESC's Natural
Language Group.
Engineer at the Text Laboratory, Department of linguistics, University
of Oslo, 1996-1998.
Researcher at SINTEF Information and Communication Technology (1998-2010).

- Registered a (national) patent for the architecture of a machine translation shell in 1989.
