Description:
The Centre of Human Language Technology and Bioinformatics of the University of Beira Interior (http://hultig.di.ubi.pt) is advertising a 9 months scholarship for a PhD student or Excellent Master student in Informatics, Computer Science or Applied Mathematics. The selected candidate will work on the MEDON project (Ontology for the Medical
Domain) in collaboration with the University of Orléans in France. In particular, research on Textual Entailment and Ontology Construction will be endeavored.

Tasks to be developed:
First, the candidate will have to apply new informative asymmetric similarity measures to automatically choose between different term definitions from different medical terminological resources.
Second, a multi-view clustering process will have to be experimented to build ontologies based on level of generality and specificity in the medical domain.

Salary:
The scholarship amount is 980 euros/month (minimum salary in Portugal is around 400 euros).

Starting Date:
The position is supposed to start on the 10th of January 2011.
