Against MS infrastructure at UiO

Subject: An important issue related to the university's freedom
Date: 23 April 2013
Dear colleagues,

I feel I have the moral obligation to tell you that the apparently innocent message that all of us got on april 9th about the new mail system at UiO in fact reveals a (in my opinion) strongly political option taken by the university's leadership, and which I think that all members of the universty should be conscious of.

Basically, it has been decided that from now on the infrastructure provided by the university of Oslo to all of us (for use of mail etc) will no longer run on Linux machines, which give the university control over the code and the behaviour of the systems, but will be run by Microsoft Exchange, a proprietary software owned by an American software company.

I think this is very wrong, and therefore ask you to sign against it (in the page below) or at least forward this information to your colleagues in other institutes or faculties.
