Help for the search system
- The entire catalogue and all HTML, PDF, PostScript, RTF and text
documents pointed to are searched.
- General search follows the standard for search engines:
- Included in the standard result format: title, date (last change),
and the first 40 words of the document.
- For phrase search, use double quotes (e.g. "tradução automática")
- The asterisk, * , is the truncation character
- (e.g. portug* for
português, Portuguese etc.).
- Typing your search in lower case will give as a result all tokens of
the word both in lower and upper case. When the search contains one or more
upper case characters the result will reflect the exact distribution of
case.
- Operators:
- + (the following argument is obligatory)
- e, and (search for both arguments
- ou, or (search for at least one of the arguments)
- not, não, nao (exclude pages containing the argument)
E.g. batata e cebola nao alcachofra will return pages containing batata and
cebola but not containing alcachofra at the same time. This search is
equivalent to +batata +cebola -alcachofra
- Relevance is calculated on the basis of the number of occurrences of the terms in
the page. Words in titles will have greater weight, as well as keywords
(by means of the filed of the original HTML document).
A page containing all the search terms is considered more relevant than one
containing some of the terms.
